Sacred Peaks Retreat
Join us on this unbelievably authentic retreat for a three-day, two-night mule caravan combining hiking with itinerant bivouacs guided by Equipée Liotard and yoga sessions taught by Victoire Harth. Departing from the Cistercian Abbey of Léoncel – a 2:45 hours drive from Geneva and just an hour’s drive from Valence TGV – the journey crosses a small plateau of breathtaking beauty, with its centuries-old beech forests, and includes an overnight stay on an adjoining alpine pasture on the western Vercors plateau. Accompanied by mules, we will explore a region at the crossroads of Alpine, Continental, and Southern influences—a land nestled between the Ambel plateau and the spectacular Omblèze gorges, where rivers and waterfalls flow joyfully.
Where
On the way to nature, accompanied by mules, in a magnificent valley at the crossroads of Alpine, continental, and southern influences. We are at the junction between the Vercors Plateau and the Drôme Valley. The Léoncel Plateau is characterized by the variety of its landscapes, which include lush forests, alpine pastures, and deep gorges with almost tropical vegetation. Nestled between the high rocky ridges that stretch from the Ambel Plateau, these wild landscapes are exceptional in their beauty and striking in their uniqueness.
This area is known for the extraordinary richness of its fauna and flora: we will likely have the chance to see the Venus's slipper orchid, the largest orchid in Europe. The Léoncel Plateau and the Omblèze Gorges are part of the Vercors Regional Nature Park and are also home to a variety of wildlife, including wolves, vultures, deer, and ibex.

Accommodations & Meals
Each evening, with the help of your experienced guides, you will enjoy a campsite equipped with furniture, spacious tents, and high-quality beds and sleeping bags. At twilight, seated around a table illuminated by candlelight and the campfire, you will enjoy an aperitif, followed by a hot meal fully prepared by Phoebe, our chef. Dinners, picnics, and breakfasts are made with fresh, high-quality, locally sourced products. Finally, you will taste unique and organic wines from the Drôme and Rhône Valley.

DAY 1
Abbey of Léoncel (917 m) - Col de Comberoufle (1195 m)
Elevation: + 230 m; 6 km and approximately 3 hours of walking.
Meeting at 1:00 PM in front of the Léoncel monastery. Introduction, mule loading, and the start of the hike through beautiful beech forests bordering alpine fields. We will then gain elevation, heading towards the Col de Comberoufle at 1195 meters. We will set up camp on a small, sheltered alpine pasture at the col. Breathing and yoga sessions with an incredible view of the Vercors at sunset, followed by camp setup, aperitif, meal, and evening under the stars. Overnight in tents.
DAY 2
Col de Comberoufle (1195 m) - Cabane Liotard (660 m)
Elevation: - 575 m and + 80 m; 7 km and approximately 4 hours of walking.
The day starts with a Hatha yoga session. Breakfast at 9:00 AM, breakdown of the camp, and departure at around 10:30 AM along a path leading to the Omblèze Valley. Picnic at the foot of the Vercors slopes in the Omblèze Valley. In the afternoon, we cross spectacular gorges and ascend a wild trail towards Pécher du Bas and the Cabane Liotard. Meeting with Phoebe, setting up the camp. Meditation session and dinner on the cabin terrace or inside the mess tent in case of bad weather. Evening under the stars and overnight in tents.
DAY 3
Cabane Liotard (660 m) - Abbey of Léoncel (917 m)
Elevation: + 257 m; 10 km and approximately 4 hours of walking.
Yoga session at dawn, followed by breakfast at the cabin. Breakdown of the camp, around 9:30 AM, and ascent to the north through the amazing Gueulards Canyon. Picnic on a meadow with a circle of sharing. Crossing the Léoncel Plateau and arrival at the abbey around 2:00 PM. End of the retreat.
